He said that police are
still in pursuit of the raiders and pleaded with members of the public
to volunteer any information that may help them in addressing the rising
cases of cattle rustling.
He also regretted the loss of the five lives during the raid and assured
the residents that peace will be restored.
Meanwhile, the two boys who were killed in Baragoi by unknown gunmen
have been laid to rest.
One of the boys was shot by two gunmen in a manyatta in Bedera Village
while the second one was killed by bandits in Masika village, both in
the volatile Baragoi area.
Among those who attended the burial was David Leakono, a member of the
Samburu County Assembly. He asked the national government to look into
security issues of Samburu North adding that residents have suffered
insecurity for more than 50 years.
“It is very painful to lose young people under unclear circumstances.
People are being killed aimlessly,” said Leakono.
One of the residents, identified only as Mzee Lenyara, said that it is
very painful and inhuman that people are killed yet no action has been
taken saying that this is a big setback to achieving peace and stability
in the region.
“We are asking the government to monitor Baragoi even if it means
imposing a curfew until all those killing people are arrested and
prosecuted,” he said.
The bandits who killed the boys are believed to be from the neighboring
communities and drove away with over 1,000 heads of cattle through the
infamous Suguta Valley where over 40 police officers were killed over
two years ago.
According to residents, the raid poses serious security threats and if
no action is taken, the situation will move from bad to worse
